The Importance of Water Mass Transport and Dissolved‐Particle Interactions on the Aluminum Cycle in the Subtropical North Atlantic

New dissolved aluminum (dAl) data from the 2017 GEOTRACES process study GApr08 along 22°N in subtropical North Atlantic are presented. They show an east to west increase dAl concentration surface waters. Simulation of these with a 1D advection-dust deposition revealed that, (a) advection and dust dissolution equally important sources, (b) scavenging plays minor role compared removal, (c) addition dissolution, another source is required at westernmost stations fully explain our observations. We attribute this additional erosion products delivered western by Lesser Antilles. For waters deeper than ∼200–300 m, optimum multi-parameter analysis allowed separate component signal derived water mass transport its biogeochemical component. This revealed, major played transport, net removal between 200 800 attributed scale, internal inputs m seafloor, reversible scavenging. While oceanic distribution usually considered be dominated atmospheric input particle scavenging, highlights advection, need explicitly take into account order quantitatively reveal impact external sources dissolved-particulate interactions on Al cycle Ocean.
